This website is an independent, unofficial guide published for general information and trip planning. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representative of Parks & Wildlife Service Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government, Tourism Tasmania, Encounter Maria Island, Tasmanian Aboriginal organisations, or any other government agency or commercial operator unless explicitly stated.
Outdoor recreation involves risk. Maria Island is a ferry-access national park with no public vehicles and no shops. Days commonly include a last-sailing hard stop from Darlington, unfenced cliffs, a Grade 4 dolerite scramble on Bishop and Clerk, a tide-dependent Painted Cliffs rock platform, limited or no mobile reception, and wildlife on tracks (keep at least 2 m; never feed). You are responsible for your decisions, fitness, navigation, weather and tide assessment, last-ferry buffer, packing, and compliance with park rules (including Parks Pass, fuel-stove rules, drone restrictions and wildlife distance). Always verify track status, fees, ferry seats, fire bans and safety information on official Parks Tasmania resources and Encounter Maria Island.
Alert snapshots, fee figures and ferry fares on this site are planning notes, not a live feed. Conditions, seats and prices can change after we last checked official pages. This guide is desk-built and does not claim the authors walked every track for this URL. Content is provided “as is” without warranties of accuracy or completeness. To the maximum extent permitted by law, and without excluding rights you cannot contract out of under the Australian Consumer Law, the operators of this site are not liable for loss or injury arising from use of the information here.
This site does not speak for Tasmanian Aboriginal people or organisations. Official acknowledgements and cultural protocols belong on Parks Tasmania and Traditional Owner channels. We do not invent cultural detail.
Links to third-party sites (including Parks Tasmania, Encounter Maria Island, Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Amazon and maps) are for convenience. Those operators control their own content, prices and terms. Outbound commercial links are disclosed on the affiliate disclosure. Official Parks Tasmania fees, camping, Penitentiary bookings and the Encounter Maria Island ferry are never affiliated.
This site does not publish a public contact email. For emergencies call 000 (Emergency+ when you have signal). See the contact page.
Images & photo credits
Primary photographs on this site are real images from Wikimedia Commons, used under their stated Creative Commons licences (CC BY 2.0, CC BY-SA 3.0 or CC BY-SA 4.0 as listed). Author, licence and source file are listed below and are also shown in image captions where practical. They are not official Parks Tasmania photographs and may not show exact current conditions, track access or facilities. Always rely on Parks Tasmania, Encounter Maria Island and on-site information for the real place.
Licence short names are as recorded on Commons. For full licence text, follow each file link. We adapt images for web display (resize/compress); attribution still applies. CC BY and CC BY-SA require credit to the author; CC BY-SA also requires share-alike if you remix beyond this site’s display resize. ShareAlike applies to those adapted photo files — not to the rest of this site’s original text or UI. The header/favicon mark is original site artwork, not a Commons photograph.
Stay-page card photos are place-context only — they do not depict specific hotels listed on Booking.com. No Commons file of McRaes Isthmus twin beaches was available at build; south-island pages use a real summit-south or island-coast photograph instead of an AI stand-in.
